Iranians & Germans hold hands & join together singing & clapping "Yar-e Dabestani-e Man" @ Römer City Hall, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

"Dabestan" means Elementry School in Persian. "Yar" means Friend. "Man" means me. "Yar dabestani man" means my schoolmate. This is a popular song in Iran, especially among the students movement, and is often recited in gathering and demonstrations.

The song was written by Mansour Tehrani, arranged by Abi Yeganeh. Mansour wrote the lyrics first in 1980. The song has been performed by singer Fereydoon Foroghi, Jaamshid Jam and Mansour Tehrani.

This particular version was sung by Fereydoon Foroughi. He was born in Tehran in 1951. He started to sing in the cafeterias of Tehran in 1968 and in 1972 he recorded his first song called "Adamak" for a movie with same name directed by "Khosro Haritash. After that, he became more popular by releasing albums such as Tangna, Zendone Del and Yaran.

After the revolution 1979 and the subsequent ban on Pop music, he tried to work again and held two concerts on Kish Island South of Iran a.o.

He died in October 2001 in Tehran and according to his testament, his body was buried in the Ghorghorak village near Eshtehard.

English translation:
My Schoolmate - Yar-e Dabestani-e Man

My schoolmate
You're with me and going along with me
The alphabet stick is above our heads
You're my spite and my woe
Our names have been carved
On the body of this blackboard
The stick of injustice and tyranny
Still remains on our body

This uncivilized plain of ours
Is covered with weeds
Good, if good
Bad, if bad
Dead is the hearts of its people
My hand and yours
Should tear up these curtains
Who can, except you and I
Cure our pain?

My schoolmate
You're with me and going along with me
The alphabet stick is above our heads
You're my spite and my woe
Our names have been carved
On the body of this blackboard
The stick of injustice and tyranny
Still remains on our body

  • "The real face of Iran"

  • Great atmosphere as usual, rainy, too!

Thank God for youtube ; )

  • Nice to know Iranians hold together all over the world. I was in London the other day, unfortunately I couldn't sing the song since I can't speak Farsi. The song has tragic and sad atmosphere. I hope Iran is free soon.

  • Thanks. Check out the lyrics posted on the right ; )

  • زنده باد جنبش سبز ایران

  • When I saw the video picture I thought so : Funny , this little middle age place I know from anywhere.... hahahha

Sure, it was Römer Place in Frankfurt / Main.

It was surprising because your channel name is sooooo very American and Iranian.

I like this gathering of Iranians and Germans in this time very much. I´m with my heart with the Iranian peoples. I´m sure that it is only a question of time. The days of the regime are counted....

    Great vid
