My cat, Apple, who loves to chirp whenever he sees any bird outside our house. Listen to his amazing bird call! It is one of the characteristic of an American Bobtail cat.

  • This is a vocalization that vents frustration. Cats do this when they see prey that they know they cannot get. If a cat is outside and stalking its prey, it will not likely do this, unless the bird is out of reach. Always amusing!

  • Good one. I agree... =) I noticed Apple also does the same call to insects such as lizards. They are usually high up where the cats can never get them (well, unless they drop to the floor!) Haha! =D

When my cats stalk its prey, they will usually get into the pouncing position, freezing on the spot for a while before moving very slowly to avoid raising the prey's attention. Then they pounce. Most of the time, they never meow or call out to the prey in that situation.

    Thanks for your comment!

  • its not a reaction to hunting... it's just a bobtail hobby =D

i don't think this cat hunts for food anyways, the owners feed them xD

  • It was stated in most cat magazines that this (referring to chirping) is indeed an American bobtail cat characteristic. ;P Not sure how true to what extent but it is indeed interesting to have my cat Apple who can do such call! ^^

Ah yes... Haha~ They are fed 3 times a day with afternoon tea breaks for cat biscuits. ^^

They do hunt, not for rats but for insects! Haha! My family calls this the modern cat hunting. We live in a high rise apartment where rats are uncommon.

  • The face resembles a Lynx Point Siamese. Cute chirps!

  • I'm curious what kind of personality Apple has, since my cat Louie is of the same mixes, he is very aggressive when he plays, I was never sure if it was just him or a characteristic of the breed.

  • My cat seems to be the same breed mix (Siamese tabby it seems?) and it makes the same noise, and we also live in an apartment and it does love its insects!

  • That cat looks EXACTLY like my best friend's one!!!

  • I had a Siamese/tabby mix that would do this when she saw birds outside the window.

  • mine does that too :P

  • I have a cat that looks like your Apple. Except her name is Sage, and her hair is much, much longer!

  • I have seen my cat do this only once- and it was towards a bird that was in our yard. What was interesting is the bird was chirping back at her at the same tone and slowly coming towards her. When the other cat scared the bird she slapped at her, then started again. Never seen her do it before or sense.

  • my cat does that too! its so funny and cute!!!
