Basil, which can be used to make dressings or as an addition to tomato sauce, is best grown by planting in the spring. Grow basil under one or two inches of dirt in a hot, sunny spot with tips from an experienced gardener in this free video on gardening and growing herbs.

  • Hi Yolanda, I have basil planted in a pot in my garden but snails & grasshoppers are eating the leaves; how can I stop the bugs from eating my herbs?

  • cover the seed with one or two inches of earth!!! that's a lot - I would say an eighth to a half inch
