I recorded a little amp demo, no talking, just playing. :-)

Please leave a comment, especially if you want to see some more gear demo's.

Amp: Engl Screamer 50, through a Brunetti 2x12" closed-back cabinet (stock speakers). JJ ECC83 tubes in V1 and V2.
Guitar: Richwood RE-125 Les Paul copy, everything stock.
Effects: Yamaha DG-stomp, Boss RT-20.
Recorded with a Zoom H2, as ambient mic (that's why you hear the picking, sorry...).

  • Did you replace stock tubes in V1 and V2 and did it make the amp less fizzy? Nice tone even though you have master pretty low

  • @bikkojisitter

Yes, I replaced the tubes with the goal to tame the fizz. Both JJ ECC83 tubes. Strangely enough, different tubes in the V1 spot hardly seem to matter for the sound character (of course it should be a good tube; noiseless etc). But the V2 tube seems to determine the character of the distortion.

  • Good demo. One question though...I noticed when you switched to high gain lead the volume seemed to be a lot lower? Did you lower it yourself or is there a volume drop?

  • @houseofglass21

Using the lead volume knob, you can balance the volume of the clean and crunch channel versus the lead channel (low and high gain) any way you want, so it's probably because of my settings. The balance between lead low gain and lead high gain is fixed though, just like the balance between clean and crunch. But the volumes are balanced really well, it's never a problem for me. And in case you don't want everything balanced, you can always use the foot switchable lead boost..

  • Do you hear both the screamer speaker and the cabinet, or isn't that possible?

  • @Luapper

This is only the external cabinet. It is possible to use both the internal speaker and cabinet (since both are 8 Ohm), but in that case you'll hear (almost) only the internal Celestion Vintage 30 speaker, since it's much more efficient.

  • @Oijadt The Mars Volta: Eriatarka

  • wow what are playing in 1:13 - 1:35 and 1:35 - 2:15. have great mood.

btw. Screamer is a good amp.

  • that was a very nice demo ;-)

    thanks

  • I immediately started to mimick the drums when you played the Kravitz bit

  • Thoughts on the built-in reverb? Engl's using a spring (as opposed to digital) reverb in such a high-gain amp seems a bit odd, though if it works then it works.
