If we as a species of the World were more evolved we could step up to the discoveries in Science and use those advances for the betterment of humanity. However, since we at the low end of the evolutionary scale there has to be "safeguards" put in place to protect us from ourselves. In the not to distant future we will have the means to stamp out hereditary diseases that maim and kill. But, we are unprepared as an evolved species to truly aid in the advancement of humanity.
