"Survival Doc" of TheNewSurvivalist.com web site discusses "bugging out," or fleeing your home after a disaster; why you should stay at home if at all possible; and how to prepare a portable 72-hour kit, or "bug out bag," in case you are ever forced to leave. He demonstrates by showing the contents of his own bug out bag.

  • I thought you could have used a hat and gloves and warmer coat.

  • @highdefinitiondiva I am not going to be bugging out butt naked. I am assuming that when I bug out I will be able to put on some clothes appropriate for the current conditions.

  • That is a horrible kit sir. No cordage, no shelter (tarp), no fire. The canned foods are a waste if space and there's a better way for the water storage. The clothing should already be on your body, therefore that is taking up space in your kit. Stay tuned and I will show you my kit when I post my video .

  • @Tappedurassout That's a very old video made when you were probably in diapers. I have a new bug out bag now. I plan to do an updated video soon.

  • No knives?

  • @RogueReplicant Yes, knives. There was one in there, but my main knife is always in my pocket, not my bug out bag.

  • The color is too noticable. Orange is going to catch eyes, and you can't hide with it.

  • Nice job. I just purchased a external frame pack about the same size for my bob. I was at a loss for gear arrangement through out the bag. I have my load out set up almost identical. I also have ammo, bowie blade and firearm.Shove, sleeping bag, small tent and dog food. My load out is for a disaster situation. I was stuck on a mountain for 3 days due to a dam a few miles up the road. Excessive rain during hurricane Irene.

  • hey doc, on the subject of bug out bags and your profession, do you have any advice for someone who has a bad back but wishes to carry a bug out bag. i have chosen the british infantry bergen 100ltr, it has an internal frame and can be made to sit on the waist to take the pressure off my back but even a small bag makes my mid back ache and i get sharp stabbing pains around the lower back and feel winded, this can come on very abruptly just carrying a load of around 10lbs on some occasions.

  • any one see the prune juice top left
