This is a waste of time for whipping enthusiasts. Over six minutes of movie and about four seconds of whipping. Good film though.

Re. slave brutality, the truth was always more complicated. In his autobio "Up from Slavery," Booker T. describes Emancipation, when his master set all the slaves free. He said there was wild joy and dancing among the slaves (of course). But he noticed the whites were sad--not to lose their property, but to lose "family." Blacks also felt sorry for the whites. And they were also afraid of "freedom," not knowing what was next. Some older slaves returned to their masters as free workers.
