A quick look at a vintage 1964 bullnose Saab 96. This is a two stroke, three cylinder car. I sold it to a fellow in Ca who blew the engine and passed it along to a saab fanatic in texas. I called it the Golden Bull.

  • burning oil i see

  • Not exactly. This Saab has a 2-stroke 850cc engine. You mix oil directly into the gas, like you would on a motorcycle or outboard motor. That's why you hear that distinctive ring-ding-ding sound in the engine. Blue smoke from the tailpipe is a healthy sign. (Did you notice the keep Tahoe Blue sticker?)

  • Not exactly Dogger747, The last of the strokers did actually have seperate tanks for petrol/gas, and the oil - around 1966 onwards.

  • You know Saab two strokes do burn oil, as part of the ignition process. The self mixing system was part of the last hurrah with two strokes from saab. Shortly there after they went to the v4 Ford engines. I still have about a dozen of the v4's sitting out in the high desert in Nevada. The stokers are more rare.

I've got a lot of pictures and info about vintage saabs on my Saabspot website. (Just key word search saabspot, you can't miss it.)

  • If you´ve enjoyed this, you might find the clips named "1000 cc" and "Saab 92XP" interesting.

  • The V4 is a Ford 15m engine.

  • do they come with A/C

  • ring ring ding ding ding ding

  • I´m not shore about that, I´ve just saw a guy with a Saab 96 two-stroke from 1967 and I´m think they stopped making two-stroke engines in beginning of the 1970:s and they started to making four-stroke V4-engine instead.

  • Nice with old Swedish Saab´s in United Stades!

  • Nice sound from the 2-stroke engine.

  • This is kind of off the wall but I follow a yahoo group dedicated to DKW cars. The brands have some shared history. Recently, some discussion has focused on the use of a

V4 as a transplant engine. Apparently, an adapter kit was, at one time, available in Germany. That dicsussion might be of interest to you. Sorry, I can't find the address at the moment. I would very much like to find a running, titled 3=6 coupe.

  • i want one

  • great car..i have the v4 but wish it was the 2 stroke
