Roberta Flack was the first one to score a major hit with this song but originally it was sung by Lori Lieberman, based on an experience she had when she heard for the first time Don McLean sing at the Troubadour. She was struck by his song: Empty chairs and felt he sang her life. I've been a fan of Don McLean since my teenage-time and I loved Roberta Flack's Killing me softly and was thrilled to find out that the song was about Don McLean, because he always sang my life too. The biography of Don McLean is called: Killing us softly with his songs. This video is a repo in a Dutch TV-program (made by Leo Blokhuis), explaining the origin of the song. And now Amaury Vassili sings a beautiful lyrical popversion in Italian: Mi Fa Morire Cantando. So much favorites come together for me.

That's an amazing story. One artist inspires another artist and then that artist inspires another and so on so forth.
