A quick video to explain the repacking proceedure I came up with a while back.
This is an improvement over the factory asbestos ( very early ) and paper used in most Coleman style gens.
In particular the 236 responds best to this. In some of my other videos you can see I spent a lot of time working on the 236 to solve the flicker issue. This modification will solve your problems.
And as an added bonus this lets you burn pump gas in your lanterns without the constant need to run the tip cleaner. This does not mean it prevents fouling but rather holds the gum in place until you strip and clean your gens ( I do this fairly often ).
Lastly if you want to do a Kerosene conversion on a 220 or 220 based table lamp make a TK44 from a standard 220E5891 use the shielding tape only and a #6 gas tip. This will also replace the copper coils in kerosene gens that have been damaged.

  • I would never have pulled the rod back out. Run it at least once first. :)

  • @04suzuka

    It would not have worked.

    Too much material.

Just a single strand of wire or fiber glass on the furl would have caused a fuel leak.

  • My fathers lantern has seen very little maintenance for the past 25-30 years. Just recently I attempted to see if it was still useable and it would not even pump up. The leather seal was completely deteriorated. Should I also be concerned about the condition of the generator? Is there a repair manual available somewhere to describe the process of taking apart the lantern? This one is old, How would I determine the correct model and year?

  • @leadpelletinass

If this is a Coleman product it should have a the date stamped on the bottom or near the Coleman logo on the side.

If it as American Lantern it may use a code that I am not familiar with.

You can buy new leather cups for the pumps, they are easy to replace.

For service information best to join a Coleman collector group online.

They can provide you with more information than I can on Youtube.

In a forum setting like I sugest there are threads you can search for info

  • You may not realize it but you mumble. You need work with your articulation. You mean well but cannot be understood.
