This is one of the numerous injured Gazan Palestinians interviewed in the Palestine Hospital in Cairo. The number of murdered and maimed during the recent attack on Gaza has been estimated to be between 20,000-30,000. These individuals included here were among the few we interviewed that agreed to appear on camera and have their stories told. This young man lost both eyes, had both of his legs broken in multiple locations (multiple fractures) and required mechanical ventilation for breathing for the past 2 months on account of respiratory complications he suffered from his injuries. Here is a rough translation of this video:
"This is Ahmad. Both of his eyes were lost when he was injured. Also, both of his legs were so filled with shrapnel that he was unable to walk on them. He is able to walk on them minimally (with assistance) now. would you like to say anything Ahmad?"
Ahmad: "It occured during the first day of the attack (on Gaza). My friend and I were sitting in front of my home in Gaza City when the missile came crashing down. My friend's leg was cut off instantly by the missile and he was martyred, may he rest in peace. And me, hamdillah (thank God), I lost both eyes and both of my legs were broken by the force of the missile. Thank God, I underwent 3 operations thus far on my legs and was intubated (had tube put in chest) for a while in order to help with my breathing and , Thank God, I can breathe on my own now without the machine.
The Palestine Hospital in Cairo, Egypt is the main source of healthcare for an estimated 100,000 Palestinian refugees in Egypt as well as for all the Palestinians who were injured during the recent Gaza attack.
