Annals of Medical School heads into the kitchen to discuss infections by Campylobacter jejuni, a bacteria often found in poultry that has a high prevalence in twenty-year-olds. It also has an interesting connection to Guillain-Barré Syndrome, an autoimmune demyelinating disease of the nervous system that can cause paralysis. www.annalsofmedicalschool.blogspot.com

Even though it happens very rarely, Campylobacter can also attack the heart and cause pericarditis and/or myocharditis.

I am an airline pilot for SWA and flying again after this horrible GBS experience, lol. My wife and I both ate chicken at a restaurant in Phoenix, "Aho Al's". We both were exposed to the "campy" bacteria but it triggered GBS in me. I should have taken a lottery ticket out that day. Boy you sure can get some bad Ju Ju out there!

The problem here is people will think GBS is from chicken - NOT! GBS is an auto immunne RESPONSE from one's body to cure illness - from MANY things. . . flu, fever, ear infection, sinus infection etc CJ is ONE initial cause BUT GBS is the Syndrome that CAN kick in to help the baody even tho it is in reality hurting the body. . . read ALL info on GBS

My brother has GBS so I really appreciate this video. He had gotten food poisoning from some chicken wings. Actually vegetarians have the right idea because any meat is scary. Thanks for this video!

I have become very educated on GBS since I recovered from it 4 years ago. I am also a member of GBS internation. I read your response and just wanted to make a quick comment. If it was not the campy bacteria that triggered your GBS, you have no worries with chicken. I was not sure if you understood that, but good luck on your recovery.
