For those who wonder:

I did not decide to include a penis, that is what the book is. I am not a censor. In fact, it took me several trips to different libraries to find a version that was clean and had not been vandalized (people scribbling over his penis).

Also I believe Sendak, although a children's author, has more literary value. This is more than just a fluffy children's book. In fact a lot of it alludes to the holocaust. You would rather your children get that than see a human body?

"When Mickey (who looks to be about three years old) enters the Night Kitchen, he loses his pajamas and spends much of the story naked. Critics object to Mickey's nudity (which depicts his penis and testicles). Some also interpret sexual innuendo in the events, with the nudity, free-flowing milky fluids, and giant (allegedly phallic) milk bottle.[1] As a result, the book proved controversial in the United States on its release and has continued to be so. The inclusion of child nudity has been frequently raised as morally problematic; consequently, this book remains on lists of books either challenged or banned."

this book should have never been published! they have it in libraries now for all our children to see. it's just completely unnecessary and i agree with TheDemonSpeaks (what a screen name) comment. This book has subliminal meanings and it's sick and perverse.

Oh my God. I am in 4th Grade, and when I saw this, all the girls were staring at the penis. I agree with blunk2000. I was embarrased. And what the heck?
