L Ron Hubbard, sci-fi pulp hack, scamster, buncho artist, wrote a space opera call Dianetics, at first a few followed and then their numbers grew. Hubbard was probably a paranoid schizophrenic intermittantly, and at times he was a brilliant conman. Making Scientology a religion was a tax dodge. I believe that Hubbard had a great intelligence service and used it to blackmail the rich and famous, and also to make himself obscenely wealthy. Love Sea Org in uniforms with LRH as the High Admiral.

I understand that the Cult of Scientology acutally filed lawsuits against, not just the IRS, but against thousands of IRS agents personally. The clandestine and secret nature of their tax exempt status negotiations suggest that Miscarriage had some dirt on the head of the IRS at the time.
