amazingly presented by John Krasinski.

From the film Brief Interviews With Hideous Men.

Not many people will ever see this film so I feel its my duty to show you how amazing john, with this monologue, is.

Time to pull on your heart strings.

It sounds like it belongs on a stage, not in a movie. It sounds acted, sounds scripted, it doesn't sound like someone actually said this.

It's funny, he manages to have so much sympathy and understanding when it comes to the one night stand girl, but not enough to feel sorry for what he's doing to his significant other.

I don't care what anyone says, I love it. I think this monologue is PHENOMAL (idk if i spelled that right :P) but you get what I'm trying to say :).

This really diminishes a really great book. Even david foster wallace said that he didn't feel his words should be read aloud, and this is a direct adaptation. I like John K., and I think it was truly brave to adapt this piece of fiction, but it feels so flat, even in comparison to DFW's reading of the same story himself. I don't know. This doesn't feel right. It feels forced, or contrived, or confected; like chewing gum that's lost its taste.

I suspect the monologue sounds so contrived because it came directly from the book. The style is familiar to Wallace's writing and was perhaps not well-adapted to this particular film format, though I think Krasinski makes a tremendous effort. (He adapted the book to screenplay himself, by the way.)

The video description needs a little more context... the film was adapted from the book by David Foster Wallace, the woman is interviewing Krasinski's character which explains his emotional distance from her.

"This seems too scripted/fake/etc" What about the emotion after he's done talking about her? Maybe the story is something he's thought out numerous times in his mind, but then when it's all said, he bursts into every emotion imaginable in the last 2 minutes.

Theres nothing wrong with movies sounding like stage productions. John krasinski also directed this movie and i believe that was his intention
