@Kady81 I'm glad the African Americans have moved forward too. I loved that show when I was a little kid and, I'm so glad I found some of the films on YouTube. Sorry I misunderstood your comment. I didn't mean any disrespect either. I'm glad times are changing.
@MFA72938 I'm not looking down on the show, the theme or actors. I enjoy watching Amos and Andy. I was only stating the obvious. I'm just proud that we (African Americans) have taken so many steps forward. Times have changed considerably.
I grew up in that era and we were always told that all the department store Santas and the Salvation Army bell ringing Santas were Santa's helpers. It had more to do with being a way to explain to kids why Santa's beard looked fake, or why there were several Santas working the block.
It wasn't a racial thing. I was told that about white Santas as a kid.
@Kady81 You are reaching far for that one. I'm sure a store would already have a Santa hired if they already had some helpers. These are classic shows. I have really enjoyed watching them and in my mind there is nothing there that makes me look down on the actors or the theme of the show. It is just pure humor and sometimes a really touching situation that is handled with grace.
Lightnin truly displays his sensitivity and kindness to Andy in this scene. He was indeed a caring friend.Mr. Nick Stewart was a great actor with much talent.
@cmsdude2222 You're certainly right about the cast not getting the credit that they deserved. I may have more to say about the issue on the tribute page (which is far from being completed). Do you know anything about my dad's & mother's dreams, accomplishments, and how they were treated by the City of L.A. many years after he left the Amos 'n' Andy show? btw, do you know why one of the comments above is flagged as spam?
My mother always told me that the Santas were all helpers. Of course the real one was at Marshall Field's at State and Madison.

And we enjoyed this show then, and I still do now.
This in particular is a very touching episode.

Did y'all notice how Andy had to be Santa Claus's helper? He couldn't be just Santa Claus. He had to be a helper.
