Flying logs defeat armed pirates

The crew and passengers of a cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden found a novel way to fight Somali pirates off the coast of Africa. The vessel, manned mainly by Russian sailors, repelled the attack with planks and logs.

Stop fucking around and equip ALL ships, cargo or whatever, with 50 cal. machine guns and trained gunners. You will see the pirate attacks cease in very short order.

@kingbleah Because of (international?) law. Here in the Netherlands at least it's illegal for a merchantship to carry arms. besides that its not a very good idea, if the merchantship fires back at the pirates, the pirates wil likely respond with more violance. for example fire an rpg at the ship, leading to many more dead and wounded among the crew of the merchant than when the crew surrenders and calls in professionals. Thats the theory behind it anyway. You can agree with it or not;)

I went through the Straits of Aden in mid-May. We are constantly receiving information about the pirate attack on merchant ships! We followed from Jizan to Fujairah.
