This laser uses an open can diode from a 20X LG DVD Burner. The laser has a heatsink made out of washers soldered together and then soldered around the collimator. To drive the fan off of 2 AA's i used a small boost circuit.

The boost circuit is inside the LED upgrade. You have to dismatle it carefully to get it out and use it. Heres what it looks like : http://www.accushop.at/images/product_images/original_images/MAG-LED-Upgrade-...

The tail switch i used in one of my most recent vids is just that, a switch. Heres what it looks like : http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51Kqz7TBfmL._SL500_AA280_.jpg
All internal circuits were removed and thrown away so that it is just a switch.

  • why do you need a heatsink when you already have the fan?

  • Heatsinks are only good until they become "saturated" with heat, once they warm up they aren't useful or protecting so i need the fan to keep it cooled off.

  • Is it bad if the window on your diode is halfway broken?

  • It can be. If the windows fragments come lose they cold damage the very sensitive laser die.

  • Do I need the black enclosed one or the white one with 9V connectors (I have this one)

  • doesn't matter so long as you can still use it. Its a 2AA battery holder either way
