Did the anger come up and go back down?
Yeah, it kind of came up and went away. Yeah
Do you think there's more there?
I almost feel like what's more there is just that longing to have her know, like what came up as it was subsiding was how much I tune into my own daughter, and how I've probably tuned into her too much. And I like to overcompensate. Although my mother was what I like to call hovering and very over protective, externally, she kind of missed the boat on what I really needed.
Well, let me take you back one more time to the - your eight-year old in the bathroom. What number would you give it now?
A three.
And what's disturbing about it now? What's upsetting about it?
Just that she's lone, like my heart really goes out to that little girl. I just want to scoop her up. I still want to scoop her up. Just like sit on the toilet, hold her in my lap, you know.
Yeah, you have a chance to do that right now. Yeah, I actually am. I've got her on my lap right now. Yeah... she's just saying "It hurts, it hurts, my tummy hurts". I'm just holding her and she's rubbing her belly. I'm just stroking her hair and putting my arms around her, just telling her "It's going to be okay, it's going to go away really, really soon." What does she need? I'm like asking her what she needs. She says she just needs to lay down in bed but she wants me to lay down with her, and just snuggle with her. And so we're going in her bed and I'm just laying down around her, like spooning her, and she's just laying down. She's starting to fall asleep. That's what I used to do with my daughter, a lot, when she would have hard times. It feels really good to be able to soothe that little girl. It feels really satisfying. Yeah, wow that was really cool, being able to just - I feel like I just put a ribbon, like a bow around something that's been unwrapped for 40 years. [crying]
That's it. Let it go. [crying] Like that I could care for her that much [crying]. I pictured myself laying with her and she just woke up and she said "Can we do this more?" [laughs] You have a chance to right now. She really likes it. Your eight-year old self needs a lot of that.
Yeah [crying]
Yeah, just be as sad as you are. I feel like I've been holding that for so long, this tightness feels not like I've always had to be on the lookout but like I've always had to take care of me, so I've got to be ready. I've got to be ready for whatever might be just around the corner [crying].
That's it, there's no backup for you.
I just got to be on alert all the time; have all my ducks in a row, all the time. [crying] It's so beautiful so see her relaxing, just to watch her sleeping. I used to just watch my daughter sleep. It reminds me of that. [breathing] That's why I dream about warm tropical islands all the time. [laughs] I feel like I'm having this experience of - like in the Matrix when they're watching the Matrix and things are going like [sound], like that's what's happening inside of my body. I feel a little disoriented right now, a little bit dizzy, like spacey.
