Richard Strauß (1864-1949)

Morgen!, op. 27, 4 (John Henry Mackay 1864-1933) /Tomorrow!/Demain!/Amanhã!

Barbara Bonney, soprano.
Geoffrey Parsons, piano.

Schweigen...
[And to-morrow the sun will shine again
And on the path that I shall take
It will re-unite us, the blessed ones,
In the midst of this world that breathes in the sun...

And to the broad shore, lapped by blue waves,
We shall quietly and slowly climb down,
Silently we shall look into each other's eyes
While upon us descends the silence of true bliss...]

  • her morgen makes me cry every time.

  • Of all the versions in the world, this, in my opinion, is by far the best.

Barbara, you simply outdo yourself every time. It's heaven. <3

  • Perfection.

  • This is so touching. And it must be so difficult to sing because you have to watch the timing so much. And Barbara's singing seems to be so light.

  • Thank you so much for uploading this. It was the first version of this sublime lieder that I ever heard and, to me, it remains the most beautiful.

  • i love barbara bonney, her voice seems to shimmer.

  • Very, very delicate

  • Sublime :)
