I owned one of these for more than ten years and sold it meanwhile. The 70's Twin Reverb has pros and cons.
Pros: Best clean sound you can get. Sparkling trebles and very transparent sound. The spring reverb sounds superb and so does the tremolo.
Cons: No distortion available (pushing the master volume knob sounds horrible). 135 Watts are too much power. Even great stompbox-distortion-peds (like TS 808) sound like crap with this amp. Way too heavy.
I have the reversed years -- a '77 Strat with a '76 Quad Reverb. The Quad is a 4x12 combo which uses the Twin / Bandmaster amp circuit, but adds 2 more speakers in one of the most awkwardly-shaped cabinets you can imagine. Hard to believe somebody at Fender thought that made sense -- whoever it was certainly never had to lift one, or carry it up some stairs. Enough headroom and clean volume to knock down every foreclosed house in your neighborhood, though, without turning it up past 6.
@UKToneKing The twin seems like a bigger version of the DR, I was looking for a 22 watt amp, & ended up with 100 watts, but it's in the garage permanently, so I can crank it all the time, I really like the bassman, I am getting new caps & tubes next week, & turning it to blackface specs, recovering the head, done the cab, taking the master off the circuit, it will be a beast, tried other tube amps, but none of them had that fender clean I wanted, & fender always makes me feel alive when playing
the twin sounds great man, I was going 2 get a SF DR, but ended up getting a bassman 100, it sounds great like compared 2 my HRDx, it has a lot of jangle as well when the bright switch is on, probably not as much as a DR, but it has the bass on tap, I tried 2 get a SF DR but their was none about, I think the bassman is as good an amp as the DR, & in it's day it was more expensive, a bassman now new is 300 to 400 pound more than a dr, but no reverb & vibrato is a pain, as that's my thing

Good for surf-rock, rockabilly and country.

Just like the one I used to own.
Bought it brand new in 1977.
