This collaboration began from an amazing drum cover sent to me by Fraser Murray (phrase). I already knew the basic tune in DADGAD 5/8 alternating with 6/8 timing,(thanks Zep!) but I had to sound out the other 2 guitar parts & I wanted to add depth to my vocal line by adding 3-pt harmony to the chorus. (as my high voice isnt as strong as Robert's, I decided to let the alto voice take the lead, and use the soprano only as harmony.)
I based my arrangement on the 1994 Unledded version in DADGAD, but capo-ed up to E as the original.
It gave great satisfaction to see this project,(which really was a cover- idea btw me and Fraser months ago) come together.
Isao Fuji, of Osaka Japan gave this cover the driving bassline for it to be convincing as an acoustic cover. He is an amazing, devoted musician, and Fraser and I are always delighted to collaborate with Isao-San! :)
Thank you ever so much to my fine collaborators, and please visit their AWESOME YouTube channels:

What a coincidence! My criteria for any future wife is that she play and sing "Four Sticks" like an angel. Are you busy for the next 50 years or so? ;-)

  • @CaptCrunge haha, ;)

Your voice really is fitting for this song. And you are enchanting....;-)

I have a studio out take of this song where you can hear Bonham talking before the song comes in. Its mixed slightly different than the album version with the bass emphasized a bit.

Also, this song was only played live once by the band ( Copenhagen 5/3/71) where Zep just nails it and Robert does a "scat" vocal during the outro and Jimmy plays a funky flamenco type riff. Then they stop on a dime! Mesmerizing.

  • wonderful

  • oh baby the river's red!!!
