The song was a wedding gift from R. Strauss to his wife.

Cecilia
Poem by Heinrich Hart

If only you knew,
what it means to dream of burning kisses,
dawdling and dallying with a lover,
gazing eye to eye,
caressing and chatting,
If only you knew,
You would soften your heart!

If only you knew,
what it means to be afraid in the lonely nights,
buffeted by the storm, with no one to gently comfort
the battle-weary soul,
If only you knew,
you would come to me.

If only you knew,
what it means to live inspired by the deity's
world-creating breath,
to soar heavenwards, called by the light
to spiritual heights,
If only you knew,
you would live with me!

  • A remarkable effort, but too often out of tune, and what a terrible piano, when was the piano tuned? I would not want to listen to this recording more than two times.

  • Hola, Javier, Espero que estes bien. Suenas muy bien. Donde lograste estudiar finalmente.

  • wow, where did you get this translation?
