@MissAmanDuhMad She didn't. She went to a hairdresser. Then for a week, she slept on a satin pillowcase, or wore a silk scarf around her head to sleep in. After a week, she went back to the hairdresser. That's what my grandmother was still doing in her old age in the 1970's.
