What a fantastic song and the band/orchestra is out of this world! Van and the Caledonian Soul Orchestra live in London 1973. Originally from the "Moondance" album/cd and also on the brilliant double cd "It's too late to stop now" Copyright lyrics and music Exile.

  • Was this at the Rainbow?

  • @NaJa0283 Yes it was NaJa! brilliant is'nt it!

  • In my book this is the best version ever! The Last Waltz one is good too, I've got it but it's not possible to put on Youtube as it gets blocked by Youtube due to copyright issues.

  • @vossmeister there is an upload with the name mixed with strange symbols but otherwise it will be rejected.

  • @KrashnyPloshad7 "One hit wonder"? He's been performing and recording for about 46 years, released about 50 albums and has had hits like: Gloria, Baby please don't go, Here comes the night, Brown eyed girl, Moondance, Wavelenght, Jackie Wislon said, Wild night (is calling), Have I told you lately, Cleaning windows,Days like this and more. He has composed more than 350 songs and plays guitar, sax, piano, mouth organ and drums, does not promote himself and yet he is worth more than $120million!!!

  • It's from the "It's too late to stop now " tour with the Caledonian Soul Orchestra, not from the particular album which is made up from a compilation of recordings in the US and London where they selected the ones they liked I suppose. But this one was filmed on video and is in my book just as brilliant and we are lucky to be able to watch it after all these years and still enjoy it to the max!

PS I never said it was from that particular lp.

  • Love the way he calls to Jack Schroer to play the sax. Van.s music is just wonderful and he always has such fantastic musicians to perform with him even to this present day. "Just one more time Baby"

  • This is one of the best things i've ever witnessed

  • The strings are from heaven

  • @vossmeister

You have that right! This is THE BEST---Thanks for all your uploads of Van--I feel like I've found the Holy Grail

  • Nick Hornby writes a great appreciation of this version in '31 Songs', said he'd like it played at his funeral.

  • 5:42 :)

  • My cus Jef @ 4:06

  • Imagine what it would have been like to have been there. I saw Van a few times in the 1980s but he was nowhere near as good as here.

  • The sax solo that starts at 2:20 is awesome stuff! I love it..

  • If anything Van is underrated. Next to Ray Charles, I think Van is the best soul singer of all time. This is a great version of this song, but I must say it's hard to beat the version from the Last Waltz which had a certain degree of spontaneity to it.
