  • Why are the tenkara rods so espensive? I want to get into fly fishing but I don't have alot of places to fly fish but we do make trips to places I could fish often. I don't want to spend alot of money since I wont fly fish alot but I still want a Tenkara. Thanks

  • @deadsquirrle Thanks for the message. We use only very high quality components on our rods as tenkara rods made with cheaper materials tend not to hold up nearly as well as ours - walls are thin and must be made with very good materials. We have strived to make fly fishing much more accessible while maintaining very high quality on our products. It takes about $160 for our high quality tenkara including rod, and line (all you really need), compared to about $300-350 for western fly fishing.

  • how big are the biggest fish you can target on tenkara rods? and does tenkara work in lakes? most of the fish i catch are about 10-14" but i also fish in areas atleast once a month where the trout average about 15-20".

  • @fisherman206 Tenkara is not ideal in lakes, in my opinion, though many of our clients use tenkara in lakes too.

The biggest fish I would target with tenkara are at the most 20". There are a couple of examples in our forum of trout up to 25", and quite a few in the 17-18" size. I personally think it is perfect for the 10 - 16" trout.

  • what happens if i hook a 6 pound rainbow and have no drag to fight to fish......

  • was trying to post a link, but it is not allowing me. Please go to our site and at the end type:

That is an angler who won the fight against a 6lb rainbow

  • Guys if u have problems with tippets and leaders breaking, try the Rio- flouroflex tippet, it shouldn't break no matter the fish size, can't wait to get my tenkara rod and test it out. cheers

  • @fisherman206 You better be Jesus and able to not only walk on water but RUN! lmao

  • @fisherman206 One shouldn't target 6lbs rainbow with tenkara, but if one does hook into it, one of a few things may happen:

    1) It will break off the tippet, quickly!

    2) You'll have the fight of a lifetime, and lose. Who hasn't lost a fish

    3) You'll have the fight of a lifetime and WIN

  • Daniel - thanks for a great instructional video on tenkara fishing!
