I want to do the same to that same kit. right now I have Remo eperors on the toms and a evens g2 coated for the snare.

great snare sound!

Sounds like those rack toms are cranked and choking.

i recommend getting a evans ec2 clear for the top heads and use the gretsch stock hazy for the bottom heads i promise you you will love it=)

Sweet, thanks for putting this up. You've tuned your snare very well, all the videos Ive heard the snare never sounds that good. But what is going on with your toms?
So i got an EC2 with sound dot for the snare and EC2's coated for all the toms. What a huge difference. I will have to do a new recording in the coming weeks to show you the difference. So nice.

Well, number one there the stock heads form Gretsch. The bass drum heads are very nice, but the tom and snare heads arent all that great. I wil upgrade to Evans EC 2's or maybe Aquarian super 2's. Just gonna wear out the stock heads first. keep in mind the mics were not drum mics, they were POS vocal crap mics and it was recorded into a Hi8 video camera. Probably not what you would hear standing in the room. The snare mic is a sm57 though. Probably why it sounded a little better.
