@Room101ok So many millionaires are BORING. Once they've made their fortune, they just want more- glorified drug addicts! I think it's great when entrepreneurs plough their life savings into pet projects, even when their is little chance of commercial viability. Very few true inventors make it rich, those who do tend to be those who fine tune other peoples ideas to something marketable.

@lickmyfart I don't know about putting a better motor in it, the space is very limited and the frame is designed to fit that motor in it. As far as making it lighter, it already weighs less that a hundred pounds, it really cant get any lighter. Although I do know somebody who said his friend put 2 car batteries in it and got it up to 32 mph...

Theres nothing wrong with the idea of cheap powered economical personal transport, just the c5 wasnt it. The problem still remains that people do not need a 5 seat car that most likely does 30mpg just for work and back. Scooters and small motorcycles are great but lack the accesilbilty/practicality of a roofed 3/4 wheel vehicle. It could be done ofcourse, batteries and motors are now pretty good, or ultra effecient 4 stroke engines. But the powers that be wont let it happen yet.

Has anybody tried to fix one of these up? Make it lighter or put a better electric motor in it? Try to modify it in any way to make it more efficient, faster?

hello i saw you when you did this run you went past me and my girlfreind at i.c.c school lol :) looked liek fun
Well I can see the novelty fun element but it was really the greatest white elephant ever invented. Sinclair a man with too much money and time on his hands. It needed double the speed(limited by regulations) and three times the travelling distance at least.
When even a mountain bike will trounce it it never made any sense at all other than a toy for the garden. I cycle all over the country but Knowing the traffic I wouldnt take one of those anywhere near a public road.

@Room101ok Well I'm not sure he had to much money or time on his hands, BUT was far to ahead of his time.
The C5 is safer today than its ever been with the introduction of cycle paths, thing is we need more of them.
As for electric vehicles, again its looking more and more likely each year.
