Sweet little bead woven earrings, using 4mm round Czechs, and two colors of Delicas. Easy to intermediate bead weaving project. 6lb Fireline, leaverback earring findings, and two small jump rings are also used.

Side note: I'm looking for any information on Iroquois and Mohawk raised bead embroidery. Its so beautiful, and in danger of extinction.

Seneca raised bead embroidery examples

(page 224) Caroline Parker, from the Seneca Nation, was famed for her mastery of this artform. Unfortunately, knowledge of it died with her. Scroll down to see the "raised" versions in the little boot.

Two excellent examples from the Mohawk and Tuscarora Nations. A watch pocket and pin cushion.

Native American women helped support their families making and selling these little treasures to tourists in the Niagara Falls area.

  • Have you ever done a 2nd layer of "petals" on this pattern?

  • @craftygirl960 No, I haven't...You should try it and let me know how it turns out.

  • I LOVE your videos. Love the crickets - they make your tutorials so soothing. I have learned so much. My most recent project is beading around a cabachon. Question is, how do you know when to stop? I have made 5 rows around the bead and because I still have plenty of thread, do I keep going? And what are your choices to do with the cab when you are done?

    Thanks so much...Judy

  • @jemooreification Well, thanks! Are you beading up the cab, or just around it? I'd say you can stop beading when it looks nice to you. :) As for applications, you can connect them and make a necklace, or bracelet, or you can add a finding and make some earrings!

  • i live near niagra falls and the tonawanda indian reservation i will look into the indian beading work you were talking about and see if i can come up with anything as i know they sell beads at the reservation i dont know if there willing to give any info is another thing cause they sell this kinda work also and may not want to give any secrets out but ill ask alls they can say is no right lol

  • @kathydon1 LOL! I'm thinking about just buying an old piece and taking it apart live on UStream, or something. I would absolutely, without a single problem, do exactly that, too. If you decide to ask, make sure you're prepared to possibly get insulted for having the nerve to value the artform, which is nutty, but, whatever.

  • I'll make me apair of these this evening. Thank you for sharing!

  • I have made a bunch of these because your instruction is so clear and at a pace I can follow!! I so appreciate you sharing your craft!!

  • I made it of black and white beads.!

  • i didnnt think u were using green! i thought it was white! :)

  • @tsummerlee I'm beading around the cab...I'm not ready to try and bead up the cab. The bead I'm using isn't really a cab...it came in a bag of free beads and it looks like a cab so I thought I'd experiment by going by your tutorial. It looks great right now so I guess I'll stop and make a necklace or something.
