it wasn't the hard opening, It was that the legs straps were not tight enough. I remember when I started skydiving, a few times I though my straps where tight, but they weren't and at opening I end up with bruises on my legs and arms. as you can see when she has the harness on it isn't tight at all, you shouldn't be able to move th elegs starp down at all
hardly the most crazy accident i've heard of. A skydiver breaks his leg with a hard opening? i know it could have killed him and he was lucky but it's not the most worrying thing to think about happening on a skydive since it's entirely his fault and he should have prepared for the jump better.
People do what they want, or what they think is cool. Myself, I don't got in the plane without everything tight, and all handles, and PC checked. BASE jumps, same thing, everything tight before I walk out onto the bridge. Just my opinion.
most serious jumpers have a container that fits snug. it sounds like he is a student and/or jumping rental gear. Rentals are adjustable, but it's up to the jumper to make sure they tighten up, CLose the chest strap, etc.
MIne moved quite a bit once --it was rental gear at a new (to me) DZ. My legstrap dropped below my knee as I was climbing out. Scary because it was as tight as it could go- the slack was about an inch thick folded. I rode the plane down that day. They don't really bother making rental gear to fit 100 lb women.
Not really. You are responsible for your own gear, not someone else. If I see something wrong on a container, I might point it out to the jumper, but it ultimately falls in the hands of the person jumping that canopy.
Some people ask for pin checks before jumping, but most people dont. This is 100% the commissioner's fault.
fuck from looking at how fat he is i would never think anything could get loose on him.
