  • This video is sorta insulting.

Of course today's standards 56k sucks and even phones on the prepaid market can (usually) get better than dial up speeds, but back in 1998 the common person used Dial Up.

Shit like T3 was only used by businesses and rich people.

Hell in 98 to HAVE a computer and internet access was a big deal; a 12gb computer running Windows 98 and having 512mb of RAM would run you about a grand then.

Sorta unfair to compare 56k to Broadband when Broadband was new at the time.

  • "Kinda acceptable in 1998"?

In 98 the only people who used ISDN and the "high speed" equivalents of then were business people and rich people.

Dial up WAS the internet back then. It might have been slow, but back then the internet simply being there was amazing.

To tell someone then that download speeds of today would be in the MBPS would be like talking about flying cars.

  • @s41793 Yeah, that was my theory.

  • @AdamKoralik Did some more research, and I found a discussion about a similar one on ASSEMblergames. The general consensus there is that it is most likely some kind of rental unit, which makes sense because of the security screws holding it together and the carrying bag it came in.
