This is one of the finest examples of the high-end New Employee Safety Orientation video production projects produced by Craig Witter, General Training Company (GTC) in over 19 years in business.
I have produced hundreds of construction safety and orientation videos at varying degrees of quality for clients in all types of businesses over the years, each within the client's budget. CC Myers wanted a video produced at a level of quality that reflected their professionalism and excellent reputation, as a leading bridge building contractor in the construction industry. Excerpts of their English and Spanish language videos have been edited together and posted here, on YouTube as an example of what GTC considers the high end of our video production capabilities.
Note, though, that this video was produced in 4-by-3 standard definition, as requested by the client. GTC is equally adept at shooting, editing and producing graphics and animations in 16-by-9 high definitions in-house upon request.
CC Myers, Inc.'s 16-minute videos, English and Spanish, covered company history, core values (SPIRIT), disciplinary policy, zero tolerance program, team member responsibilities, job hazard analysis, first aide and emergency care, harassment policy, safety meetings, as well as Code of Safe Practices and Injury and Illness Prevention Program information about the hazards in the client's business that are most likely to cause injury to their workers, including: drugs and alcohol, PPE requirements, ladder safety, company vehicles and equipment, welding, trenches and excavations, underground hazards, confined spaces, hazardous materials, MSDS's, container labeling, traffic safety, etc.
In addition to the host of graphics and animations that are built into many of GTC's videos, high-end video production elements incorporated into this project included:
- Advanced Script Writing. Key visual and verbal representations of the clients business were crafted into a very sophisticated script. For example, it was determined that the client's core values, represented by the acronym SPIRIT, were being widely promoted within the company through various medias and should therefore be highlighted in the videos. Animations were carefully story boarded, scripted and produced to visually link the major sections within the videos to the core value to which they were related.
- Unusual Use of Split-screens. In the final third of each video, major sections were divided, or bridged (pun intended), with split-screen animations based on the client's bridge logo. These bridge animations were applied late in the videos because that is when the average viewer's attention would ordinarily start to wander.
- Jib Arm and Dolly. Several key shots were produced using high-end, moving camera supports. For example, the camera moves side-to-side in the harassment section and cranes up and down and side-to-side to follow the worker as he climbs, walks and uses fall protection in the excavation scene.
- Production Resources. Craig Witter wrote the script, shot video and photos, directed all field shoots, edited video, created graphics and animations, performed voice over narration, recorded and edited audio, art directed the project, supervised production and post production, sold and administrated the project. In addition, other outside companies and individuals who participated in this project included: Rick Raef, Eagle Media, Ruyak Media, Cristina Scherer, Mark Christensen and a number of CC Myers, Inc. employees.
