This is a short documentary I did on Neil Ellis who was selected to be on the 4th Plinth on the 18th July 2009. He chose to do a performance highlighting the alarming number of cyclists dying in London's streets since January 2008, the majority being hit by HGVs.
I was particularly interested in his attempt to do this via this platform; the 4th plinth where the public would be on a platform of being monumental for once and really wanted to explore the relationship and perspective of the public being a subject to look at and vice versa. Additionally the communication of this as on a platform suggested to make the public 'living art' as well had this been done in front of houses of parliment or near city hall, it would have been conceived very differently. (Activism? Performance art?)
This film has been made of material from 5 different cameras: a mobile phone, a broadcast camera, mini camcorder, cctv footage, and super 8mm to give the sensation of different perspective both from the subject's point of view and the public.
