just listened to a recent, 20 min. interview of leigh where she explained this song.
deanbaird, you got it, i missed it...the song's about the band...the 'dear machine' is really a description of the journey of sixpence none the richer. i agree, the rust wasn't that bad.
Thanks Schnookynibbles, I came to the song late but the metaphor jumped out of the speakers at me. I think it's bubbled up to become my all-time favorite Sixpence song. Love the guitar riffs and the horn section!

I actually prefer solo Nash to SPNtR, but I'll take what they're dishing out. It's very yum!
