Can you show a real enclosure build like this
im guessing northeastern snow loads would
kill it. is there a live example of this design?
show us!

I like it. The down ward and outward pressure of the reciprical portion of the roof could be very much reiforced by adding a steel band aroud the original square frame.

I just uploaded another entry for reciprocal roof framing using Sketchuip. It is the result of some ideas I've had about closing in the roof without building another framing structure over the reciprocal frame, and it also responds to the comnment by rdagger68. Since Goodle changes some things on their site, I can't figure out how to get back into tgillespie3038, so this latest video is uploaded through my Google account timothyhgil.

Thanks for the great video. I'm considering a reciprocal roof frame for an existing 6 sided shed. I'm having a tough time figuring out a way to cover and insulate. I'd like a solution that emphasizes the unique design from both the inside and outside. It will need to be leak proof and accommodate R13. Have you come up with any other solutions?

Wedges are not necessary, but it was one of the first solutions I came up with. What I also think I would do is to modify the design to have at least six sides, since the reciprocal concept is so cool, why not let it be all it can be. The final skin could be achieved by a lightweight wood frame on top of the reciprocal frame, and there are a lot of varieties on that theme. I built a gingerbread house last Christmas as a reciprocal frame. I'll post some pictures of that to show another way.

- Though it would be less realistic, could you not just use each corner to base the square top off of, rather than creating wedges to even everything out?

@mikejmcc1970 - I see that he posted reasons for this design but he didn't post as a reply to me so I never came back to learn his reasoning. I understand now it is a combination of reasons and not just to "Get Er Done". - Thanks for your answer to me and this oportunity to revisit the idea.

Check out this book if you want to explore all the amazing examples of reciprocal roof framing. Reciprocal Frame Architecture by Olga Popovic Larsen. It's available on Amazon.
If your building a conventional roof over the reciprical roof, its redundant. Just build a conventional roof.

I guess because it looks cool..but ya I agree, the hips all by them selves would hold up the cupola.
