Since 2001, the United States has spent approximately $1.05 trillion dollars on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because these wars have yet to show their benefit to the American taxpayer, this video is intended to provide one alternative which the money could be put towards. Making it easier to commute by bicycle will keep our air clean, reduce dependence on foreign oil, give more people a useful form of exercise, and provide cheaper transportation. We can put Americans back to work by having them manufacture the parts to build bicycles and pave bike lanes alongside the roads.

The music and lyrics in this video are original, and I took all but one of the pictures from places around my community. The other picture was taken by one of my family members, and is from Brussels, Belgium.

Remember, money that is spent on warfare increases our dependence on the "defense" industries, trapping us into a cycle of waging war in order to keep our economy going. If we want to prevent warfare in the future, we need to break our dependence on the war economy by investing our tax dollars elsewhere. Every dollar spent on warfare is a dollar lost to our communities, while every dollar spent on people in the United States is a dollar that will support and strengthen our communities.

This video was part of a contest sponsored by the American Friends Service Committee and National Priorities Project.
