Wild music by the writers of Jaan Pehechaan Ho. Hear the similarities? Made 6 years earlier in 1959, this song was in the movie "Love Marriage". I've put it to the Jaan Pehechaan Ho dance scene that was in the movie "Gumnaam" (1965).

The songwriters were known as Shankar Jaikishan (Shankarsinh Raghuwanshi & Jaikishan Dayabhai Pankal). These guys were masters of romantic ballads, but every now and then they would go crazy and write ripping great dance tunes.

I've included the original scene from "Love Marriage". What that dance scene didn't have is Jaan Pehechaan Ho's great set design, costume design, Ted Lyons and His Cubs, and dearest to my heart, the psychedelic choreography of Mr. Herman Benjamin.

On albums the song in this video is lumped in with the one that immediately follows it and given the same title (Teen Kanastar Peet Peet Kar or Tin Kanshtar Peet Peet Kar). Mohammad Rafi sings that as he later sang Jaan Pehechaan Ho. To me, this song is a completely different song. The beat is much faster and the mood is completely different. I suppose it could be called "Intro to Tin Kanshtar Peet Peet Kar". I have a feeling that Shankar Jaikishan had a unique name for it.

I think that Jaan Pehechaan Ho is pure Rock and Roll while this song is more 1940's-'50s style Jazz or Jump Blues. I find it interesting to hear this musical bridge between the Jazz Age and the Rock and Roll Age.

This thing took days to edit. There are lots of cuts, but most of the work was in color correction, brightness, contrast, gamma, etc.

Hope you enjoy this. Please don't forget to give it a rating. :) Thanks!

  • Great idea, putting this under the dance scene from Gumnaam. JPH has captured the imaginations of people all over the world. The perfect razor's edge of mania vs control. Love it. Thanks for bringing out this tune in such a creative way.

  • @HighwaySage Thanks so much! "Razor's edge of mania and control," I like that! That's an excellent description of these dance scenes!

  • You have done a very good job of comparing two songs/tunes. Good editing too.

  • @hilfri1 Yes, the 1960s were wild wild wild! Best decade of the 20th Century, imho!

  • Appreciate the research and the effort! Never seen the Love Marriage before.

P.S. Ever noticed in Gumnaam the haunting music that drifts through the forest is pretty much a copy of 'Charade'...
