How to do a roulade.

Read-along:

(Introduction)

"The first thing you want to do is find a nice soft surface to practise on. Now this grass has been growing for a bit so it has a bit of give and it hasn't been sunny for sveral days in a row so it's not too hard, so it should be asbolutely perfect for a beginner to pracise on."

"Take a second or two to check your grass for any big stones. This grass has none so that's absolutely fine. Wouldn't want to land on those."

"A very common mistake is to do a forward roll."

"You don't want to be doing this because this means your spine is running the whole length of the ground and the idea is that your spine is in contact with the ground at an absolute minimum, hopefully at no point whatsoever once your technique is perfect."

"You want to make a table with your hands and feet and instead of having your hands just in front of you (this is a good starting position) but then you want to move this hand to just outside this knee and this hand directly forward from your crotch."

"Doing this will give you a nice diagonal across the back, you might be going from the right shoulder down to the left or from the left shoulder down and across to the right. You don't want to be going straight down the spine."

"Having made your table, you want to push forward. I'm a righty, I roll to my right so try and picture this to the left if you're going to be doing it the other way. You can try to the left, it'll be the same positon but this way, but to the right like me you'll be in this position. You want to push forward and you want to tuck your head, your chin basically into your chest so it doesn't bump (into the ground."

"Give that a go, should look like this."

"I'll try and do it to the left for all you lefties. A good idea, something I didn't do and really regret not doing is to learn to do it both ways from day one.

"Once you're a little more confident, try your roulade from a standing position."

"Learn to do the table technique first, then standing and then try a very small hop into it."

"Those are your three steps, practise them as often as you can and then try do it on concrete too."

"That's us for today, good luck with the technique and leave a comment on my YouTube if you need any more specifc advice."

Not terribly well-edited but that's unimportant.
