  • On second thought, at least one model of the Gannet had a sharper angle on the tail, so it could still be the Gannet. If it was launching from the Hermes, it would have been. I don't believe Skyraiders deployed aboard that carrier.

  • @Planetar17 The one on 8-41is a sky raider you can notice it from its propeller, thanks for watching.

  • @frankenstang1973 Wasn't that a Gannet @ 8:40? Didn't it have contra rotating props?

  • @Planetar17 Yes it did have contra rotating props mate.

  • I think Britain made huge mistake when they canceled CVA-01 carrier project

  • Opinion-The status of QE and PoW is being kept ambiguous on purpose so as to keep them off the chopping block (wise politics under the circumstances). I expect that when the economy improves-we'll see both ships commissioned into the RN... with the planned air groups. Why am I so confident? The ships have a purpose-protect and promote vital UK worldwide interests. Cancelling the ships-or cutting one-will have a measurable net effect on those interests. This ships WILL sail.

  • @joluqa Better than that, two engines, a double Mamba!

  • You're right. I think the tail clinches it, although both the Gannet and Skyraider used the same APS 20 radome, but the tail on the Skyraider has sharper angles than on the Gannet.

  • @Planetar17 It's a AD-4W skyraider

  • Great clip of some classic aircraft and carriers and also when the royal navy and the fleet air arm was a force to contend with, now that the Sea Harriers have been given away to the yanks...just what has the fleet air arm have on its strength? Why do we always get rid of perfectly good kit and not mothball it for when its needed, are we still going to ask the french to borrow a carrier, polititions welcome to my world ..the real one that you should enter one day..do your job protect us.

  • Great video pal. Can I ask the name of the second song please?

  • Joe; what a brilliant find but I also love the soundtrack. '1492 In search of Paradise' is one of my all time Vangelis favourites.

  • How much money would Britain save by withdrawing from the EU? Think of the boon to the Royal Navy. They could build both QE and PoW, plus a third ship to guarantee continuous service of the carrier format. Double the number of frigates and destroyers and nuclear attack subs and make China and Russia piss their shorts. Thing is, Europe would still trade with the UK after withdrawal and then come to London for loans, plus UK could better defend Europe against a Russian attack.
