After you got the sweet Thai basil, fresh from the market, have you ever wondered how can you plant them to grow your own? Better that way so we won't have to buy them over and over when we are cooking Thai food.

My Mom knows how - she showed me for this video. :)

  • Hello there, I would like to know how to grow Thai Holy Basil? Sometime I went to the Market and couldn't fine them. Could you make a video for this too? Thanks!

  • @Tbluebird11

Hi! Thank you for writing, I'll keep that in mind for my next video. :)

  • do they even grow because they have no roots...? or do they just die

  • @rapsaper

The root will pop out under the leaf after we planted it in the dirt. :)

  • Why don't you plant it straight?

  • @potboy321

My mom said it grows better when you don't plant straight but doesn't know why. :D

  • Joy, This method also works with many herbs like shiso. I often just start them in water in the kitchen window then plant. If a branch of a tomato breaks off you can start a new plant too! Say hi to Vern for me!

  • When my dad told me this trick I didn't believe him haha but it really did grow! We did it with mint too and the trick is to keep the soil very wet. :)

  • Great video...and you are always so sweet. My kids love Thai basil fried rice. Always have to take a special trip to Tesco to get the basil and they don't always have them available. The next time I buy I will certainly try your method of planting..:))

  • so amazing. great video. also, your child is adorable.

  • Are there more thai herbs that can be grown like the basil? Herbs that can be bought at the market .And herbs that can not be bought at the market!

  • so helpful esp my plant I brought at walmart so the stem was not woody
