yes, i know it is also to symbolise a turning point, eg the shape ( u - turn )
good poem tho.

Actually it is not random! the poet places the closed bracket to signify closure - the ending of a culture. after the children have died, there is nothing left. very poignant.

i made this video after studing it in an english lesson, the poem named 'what were they like' by denise levertov was created to recap on the vietnam war and what happened.
