Playful Horse

Annie is a Haflinger Arabian cross that came to us about 3-4 months ago through a rescue where she and her two year old son were saved from the "Kill Pen". For those of you that don't know what a "Kill Pen" is, it's reserved for horses that will be sold to the meat market or slaughter market.

Annie apparently had an abusive past, as she was very hard to catch and even harder to tack up. She definitely didn't trust people. Her feet were horrible and she was so stiff she could barely reach her hip for a scratch. She also suffers from arthritis in her left hind quarter.

With patience and a kind hand, she has come a long way. She's very easy to catch and takes her tack without flinching now. With extensive stretching and exercise techniques, she has become quite limber and her arthritis only flares up on occasion.

As you can see from the video, she absolutely loves to play and show off. One of her favorite games is Hide N Seek.

Love the story

Lovely girl! :) I was wondering, what extensive stretching and exercise techniques did you do with her? I just started working with a rescue who is in his 20's and seems to be having trouble with balance and arthritic pains in his front leg. I have been doing ground poles and easy-moderate walks, but have had a hard time doing any stretches bc he loses his balance so easily when I pick-up any of his feet! Any suggestions? Thank you!!
