I challenge you to intelligently rebuff and support Arpaio's statements line for line in this video. A sheriff publicly threatening the BOS Supervisor if he decides to continue to withhold funding? That is not how Democracy works. Are you aware that the same person he is threatening has been his most loyal supporter for years?

By popular usage, however, the word "democracy" come to mean a form of government in which the government derives its power from the people and is accountable to them for the use of that power.

I think that describes the USA just fine.

We are a representative Republic on some levels (Mainly the Federal Government) and a pure democracy on others.

The Accurate term for our form of government cannot be defined in as simple words.

Many states allow for policy questions to be decided directly by the people by voting on ballot initiatives or referendums. This is pure democracy.

The idea that we live in a pure form of government in any sense is ignorant. We live in adaptive mix.
