Qristina & Quinn perform a set of Irish & Scottish tunes (Haste to the Wedding, Banish Misfortune, Little Miss Susan Cooper & The Wedding Reel) at "The Creamery" Ceilidh Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, August 14, 2007
Since there have been so many comments about the "sound", let me say that:
Quinn is plugged in, he uses a DI and his own cords
Qristina is ALSO plugged in, she uses a pickup on her violin as well as a DI
The microphone you see in front of Qristina is a vocl mic, for her to announce the pieces and talk to the audience.
The sound balance (guitar / fiddle) was set by the sound-man...

  • Is that a baritone guitar?

  • no, just a small boy... heavy on the bass end.

  • great fiddle playing and guitar backing.she is the only person i have ever heard playing miss susan cooper and i have been to lots and lots of sessions this reel is a cracking reel and should be played moore

  • Hi, yes, unfortunately it's always a bit of a battle dealing with "sound people"... the guitar should be a little louder... Qristina :)

  • well in all fairness the fiddle is being played through the mic

and the guitar if you look carefully is plugged into an amp

so the mic volume was louder than the amp volume

  • Shoot the soundman....

  • waaay too fast!! too fast! im born and bred irish and i play fiddle and those tunes are played far to fast! slow down :/

  • I can hear the 'tar just fine : ) Amazing, brilliant playing on both parts!!! Favorited.

  • Definitely, closer to the guitar - although the fiddle sounds beautiful.

  • Hello, what key is this played in?

  • Wow, I really like this, though I cant hardly hear the guitar.

  • I've been playing professionally for years and to add my tuppence worth this is a good set with a very good young guitarist and an extremely good fiddler rocking the house and I've never seen such a fuss about sound which is always tough with acoustic instruments and often out of the control of the artist. Loved it.

  • This is one of my favourite BACHAND sets

  • did you not realise that the guitar has a lead?

  • @PodMonkeyCWC OK, might as well set everyone straight on what is going on sound-wise.... Quinn's guitar has a pickup & Qristina's fiddle has a pickup, so they're both going through their pickups. The lone mic is a vocal mic for Qristina to talk to the audience. The sound levels were monitored & adjusted by the sound-man. We like the fiddle & guitar levels to be fairly even so both players are featured. Hope that answers the questions/comments left regarding sound. Cheers, Marie (the mom)
