@CrazedWolfen Actualy the banjo came from Africa. It originated from a three string, fretless instument with a round drum body. (not unlike the shamisen) The banjo as we know it today was developed in the United States by the west african slaves.

A nice case of ignorance fought with ignorance. As far as the production of sound is concerned (with the body serving as an amplifying drum) the shamisen actually resembles the banjo most of all western instruments. And one only has to listen to bela fleck to know that Banjo's are not for fucking rednecks.
