A survey of consumer confidence shows US citizens remain pessimistic about their financial future as the country battles a $65 trillion debt.

Data from the Conference Board's report also reveals that is now more difficult to get a job in the US since the mid-1980s.

Al Jazeera's John Terrett reports from Washington.

  • Not all Americans blame Europe. These people were hand-picked for this interview. Many of us in the US know its our own country that is fucking everyone living on it. Shitty jobs (if you can find one), no benefits, no healthcare, inflated education costs to better yourself, rising cost of living. Then there is the issue that we Americans spent too much money during the bubble on non-essential crap we didnt need, and are scaling back. Of course it will affect consumer spending.

  • We should have expected this type of moronic response from the anti-Americans. Literally all they heard from this piece of news was Americans saying "IT'S ALL EUROPE'S FAULT." Never mind the fact that only 2 Americans spoke on camera and that the first guy ended his input with a variation of the idiom "wait for the other shoe to drop." The other "shoe" in this case, being the next step, or the final conclusion. The first "shoe", being the US, having already initially dropped. They accept it.

  • @USAWoody 100.000+ civilians died in afghan war. 3.000 in 9/11.. now 10 years after 9/11 european newspapers were 1 week only talking about 9/11! the whole world chanced because of this thing in the last years. i mean.. it was a very bad thing, like every senseless killing of people. but every day more then 3.000 kids die in a single african country per DAY! that are things we should work on and i care about! i dont care about death german soldiers in a war, we helped to start.. then leave it!

  • @USAWoody true talk. nice to hear that of an american citizen.. i personaly see me as a human being from earth, and i dont think my countrys (germany) people are better than any others.. its very bad how this hate on muslim becomes normal in the US. its like the racism against turkish people in germany. but the hate in some parts of the world against ALL americans, is the same bullshit..

  • @SenfeuIe yes the media generally shares stories about kittens, baseball games, Obama flying around in his big plane, and if they have time there's been 5 US soldiers killed in (enter the war here). For awhile, most Americans thought Saddam Hussein order the attacks of 911. We are told that we should hate those brown people because they a) have a different religion, b) hate our freedoms, and c) killed firemen on 911. In contrast, we never hear about how many Iraqi or Afghani have been killed

  • @USAWoody did the american media rly tell this kinda stuff? ^^ i totaly agree with you.. i didnt say its not europes fault.. its is, but not only, like you said.. this practices of some people, who play with others people hard earned money simply must be forbidden! without them shit like this never would have happened.. im speaking about the brokers and all this other scum...

  • I don't agree, it's the employers and manufactures that have low confidence in consumers, they then through their depressed covetous policies, infect their employees with both insecurity and fear of being tossed out on the street... THIS THEN gets rated as low consumer confidence by the observers of the general economy?... wrong focus.

  • I advised that If America will just concern on their own country instead of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq. America have great planner. Just made plan and try to concern on their own country, otherwise Russia is the very recent example. America should control CIA to don't interfere in other countries issues. America high budget is consume by Army & CIA.

  • Its simple the rich are getting richer just like a poker game, in the end the games over, and fighting breaks out stealing anything to get that money and start the game up again. The difference in life is life will continue no matter what it takes, most of the time the end result is war meaning robberies killing anything to get wealth. We have built a world that fucks you in the ass if you are poor. I think Cheap Energy will change everything, in a matter of days.

  • Why does AlJazeeraEnglish allow comments on some video and not on others?

  • "US consumer confidence remains weak", no kidding. in an environment where a large percentage of people are jobs and having to rely on food stamps. also, we know we have crooks in the white house. we lost our high credit rating and our status as the world reserve currency is next. stop stating the obvious.
