"In a Horizon special, naturalist Sir David Attenborough investigates whether the world is heading for a population crisis.

In his lengthy career, Sir David has watched the human population more than double from 2.5 billion in 1950 to nearly seven billion. He reflects on the profound effects of this rapid growth, both on humans and the environment.

While much of the projected growth in human population is likely to come from the developing world, it is the lifestyle enjoyed by many in the West that has the most impact on the planet. Some experts claim that in the UK consumers use as much as two and a half times their fair share of Earth's resources.

Sir David examines whether it is the duty of individuals to commit not only to smaller families, but to change the way they live for the sake of humanity and planet Earth."

@Trevorthentcy Rather than Sir David sacrificing himself for your warped version of a better world wouldn't it make much more sense for people who already live in an environment unsuitable for sustaining life to stop breeding like roaches? If you are already starving what does it gain you to produce ten more starving people who are destined suffer worse than you do already?

its our destiny, if we control birth how are we going to evolve? if we control birth it will have opposite effect and more and more ppl will become depressed and ill which results in more suffering... you have to think seriously about it...its not as simple as ''lets just stop having babys'' in this day and age thats the only reason 99% of are alive because of family. and thats fact.

White man needs to develop a disease to kill off everyone in Africa but without hurting the animals. Then once everyone is dead go in and clean the place up and share out the land between the 1st world countries. Also all poor people should be sterilized throughout the rest of the world. Also retarded children should be put down. Maybe then we would have world population under control?
