From the Annual Australian Islamic Conference 2010
"FAMILY MATTERS: Foundation for Success"

The family is the cornerstone of this Ummah. By nurturing our families to be visionary, pious, confident, self-sufficient and selfless we are all able to contribute to uplifting the status of this Ummah. Put simply, the Family Matters! because it is the institution through which success in this life and the next is built.

In tackling the theme of Family, this year's AAIC addresses three sub-themes:

Marriage!
What does it mean? How do you select a spouse? What are the rights and responsibilities of each spouse? What are the keys to a successful marriage in Islam?

Children!
How do we raise them? What vision should we have for them? How can we teach them to be proud of their Muslim identity and be ambassadors of Islam? How can we as parents become the best of role models?

Knowledge!
What is its link and importance to the family? Why seek it? What should we be seeking? How do we incorporate it into our day-to-day lives?

By the end of the conference it is our intention that every individual will come away inspired, spiritually re-energized, and armed with essential knowledge and practical tools to make positive changes within their families and lives.

Sheikh Shady AlSuleiman was born in Sydney, Australia from an Arab - Palestinian family who migrated to Australia in the late 60's. He completed his School Certificate in Sydney before heading overseas on an eight year journey seeking Islamic knowledge in the Islamic world. He initially obtained an Ijaza with sanad (complete chain back to the Prophet Muhammed saw) in complete and sound memorisation of the Qur'an in Pakistan.

He then travelled to Damascus, Syria for a six year journey to continue his Islamic and Arabic studies at numerous Islamic Institutions through many well-recognised scholars. In Syria, he specialised in Arabic and Comparative Fiqh (Islamic Law/Jurisprudence) and received numerous Ijaza's in Fiqh, Usul Al-Fiqh, Hadith and other Islamic sciences.

He currently lives in Sydney and is greatly involved in the Muslim community, particularly with the Australian Muslim youth. He operates from Australia's largest Masjid and Islamic centre (Masjid Ali Bin Abi Taleb, known as Lakemba Mosque). He also travels to numerous interstate and overseas countries in which he delivers lectures and being part of Islamic conferences.

Sheikh Shady has established: * Australia's largest youth centre known as the UMA (United Muslims Of Australia); * Sydney Islamic College for intense Islamic studies, providing the Muslims in the west with online and distance education; * ANMA (Australian New Muslims Association) covering the needs of the Australian new Muslims, with over 1000 new Muslims embracing Islam in the past six years; and * various other organisations and activities that cover the needs of the Muslim community.

  • Thank you for this great lucture and barakkalahu feek

  • @TheZapper014 I think if you truly want to memorize The Holy Qur'an and study Holy Hadiths, and do it for a good cause then I think you should chose this path because it is more righteous and good! You have to remember that sometimes your parents don't know what is really good for you. Your parents never want something bad to happen to you but in Islam education is important, so finish school, and your cause is right, because money and wealth is nothing, and I think u understand this.

  • salam, I watched your video about children's right on their parents and MashAllah it is good, but i have a question. My father wants me to finish school and make a lot of money so i can buy big houses, TV's, etc, but i dont want to finish school i want memorize the quran and study hadith's and teach it to others? so we are arguing about it and i'm just wondering am i right or am i wrong? because its my life and i want to a ustah.

  • MashaAllah! Very nice vidio... one thing thats what i'm feeling.....
