West Yorkshire Police: One Punch is all it Takes...

One punch is all it takes to shatter lives. As part of West Yorkshire Police's ongoing work to reduce violent crime officers have teamed up with Crimestoppers to raise awareness of how a night out can lead to a fight and the loss of a life. Since 2006 16 people have died as a result of one punch offences across West Yorkshire, during this time the numbers of people being killed in this way has risen. Between 2006 and 2007 the total of deaths doubled from three to six. This remained the same in 2008 and one person has died since the beginning of 2009. The awareness campaign was launched in July and aims to show how in a split second a person can become a killer or be killed. Police have created a short film which illustrates this.
